Today starts LGBTQ+ Pride Month so happy pride to all my brothers and sisters. But what’s really on my mind is the most recent events. 🌈 I don’t pretend to be the wokest person in the world; in fact I still have a lot of learning to do. When things tend to get stressful, I bury my head in the sand or stay inside my own pink bubble because it makes me feel safe and secure. In fact my friends used to call me bird because I reminded them of an ostrich or flamingo. 🦩 I haven’t expressed what I’m feeling over the last week because I wasn’t sure how to express it or what to even say. But what I’m feeling Is a whole lot of sadness. My own personal stuff aside (which is becoming hugely stressful and depressing) I’m sad for our country! I’m sad for our world! I’m sad for my friends and all people of color. 🌈 I’m sad that people care more about getting their hair done and their selves with no respect or care for the safety of others that they think it’s ok to just walk around without a face mask on. 😷 I’m sad with everything that’s been going on related to George Floyd and all of the other people of color before him that have been discriminated against, harassed, assaulted and generally just not respected as a human being. 😢 As a gay man I’ve definitely experienced a lot of harassment in my own lifetime (including being chased at knifepoint by a group of men yelling “kill the f@g”) but it is no way compared to what POC deal with on a daily basis. And as a white man, I do understand my own white privilege. 😢 I’m also sad because I am at a loss of what to say or do. But I’m educating myself. And if you’re another person of privilege like me and you want to be an ally to our brothers and sisters who are people of color here’s a few things we can do: Check on your friends that are POC Listen to their stories Educate yourself and your family Help the less privileged Stand up and advocate for justice Sign petitions Donate money

I saw this quote this morning on @yellowbeadsandme feed: “Don’t give up your authenticity for someone else’s approval” 💖 As I’m going through my divorce I’m realizing what parts of myself I hid away for approval. Maybe I felt I had to but didn’t really need to? But I still felt that way sooooo... 🦋 I actually feel like I now have this time to transform and soar. This transition gives me the opportunity to create the life I want to live and become the person I truly want to be. I’m at peace with the end of my marriage of 19 years (I’ve been expecting this for over a year now, so I’ve already had time to grieve it) and now I’m ready for the next chapter. 🦋 Thank you to everyone for your sweet messages!
