I don’t know what it is with perfume companies today who just release slightly different variations of the same fragrance. Each formulation is just slightly different from the original. Enough to be produced, marketed and sold as a new fragrance.
If you have read this blog recently, you know I am currently obsessed with everything Christian Dior. That includes Dior fragrances. I have been purchasing them slowly since the start of the year and I am quickly falling in love with everything I have tried from Maison Dior.
So when I came across Miss Dior, I immediately wanted to try all of the variations. I actually reserached them all, made notes about the different ingredient notes used, and pin pointed the ones I wanted to start collecting. Which was literally all of them.
So in today’s post we are going to pit the original Miss Dior against Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming. Click the pictures or links to learn more and purchase the scents for yourself!
Miss Dior has very little similarity to the original Miss Dior Cherie that Christian Dior himself helped formulate back in 1947. When looking for inspiration for the original, Christian Dior said “Make me a perfume that smells of love”.
Now the variation I’m talking about today is actually the Eau de Toilette, which is important to note. This is a romantic floral based scent. The fragrance opens with the brightness of Blood Orange and Mandarin as the top notes. At the heart, Lilly of the valley a lightness to the burst of Grasse Rose. A base of Patchouli rounds out the fragrance.
I find this one to be very zesty on initial spray. The citrus notes hit you right away and give way eventually to the fresh floral notes of the Lilly of the Valley and Grasse Rose. I definitely get the Patchouli on the dry down.
Because this is an EDT you don’t get the length of wear that you would with a higher concentration perfume. It is nice but only wears for a few hours before it is very faint and you are only left with a dull base of patchouli. I know that this one is well loved in the fragrance community and I can see why. I absolutely love this one as well.
Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming
Now, I must mention that the Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming that I purchased is actually an Eau de Parfum, meaning it is more concentrated than the Miss Dior. You’ll see why in my final thoughts below.
Absolutely Blooming opens with delicious top notes of tangy Red Berries. Grasse Rose, Damascus Rose and Peony at the heart really opens up the perfume, while the base of White Musks enhances these floral notes beautifully.
I do find Absolutely Blooming to be a younger and sexier version of Miss Dior. Almost like Miss Dior’s younger sister. While Miss Dior is starting out her career in the real world and climbing the corporate ladder, Absolutely Blooming is her younger sister still in High School and getting ready for her Senior Prom.
So actually my pick for winner of the Beauty Battle is actually Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming and for several reasons. One, I love that this is an EDP and it wears all day long. I can spray this in the morning and still have a waft of scent on by the evening.
Two, I love the young vibe of this. It is definitely a sexier scent that is perfect for a date night or special event. It has a more youthful vibe to it.
Three, I tend to love sweeter scents and I adore Peony based scents, so the scent of Absolutely Blooming is just perfect for my tastes. It goes on so sweet and bright from the berries and dries down to a beautiful floral. I also really love musk (more so than patchouli) so the base of this one works better for my skin and my personal tastes.
